Opened in February of 2017, The Lunch Box quickly became a hit in the Downtown District. When Shawnee native Lee Rutherford isn’t serving up seriously satisfying meals, she is raising her family here in town, just like she was. In 1982 she began her first job at Brown Shoe Fit on Main St, in the building that is now Sweet Pea Boutique (or what my generation usually knows the building as, Angiemomma’s). So, when Lee began dreaming of running her own local business, she knew that it HAD to be in downtown Shawnee.
The inside info.
The Lunch Box team pride’s itself on being a locally owned restaurant that features made-from-scratch and cooked-on-site food. One aspect Lee loves about owning The Lunch Box is the interaction she gets with all of the folks. Their menu is PACKED with sandwiches, soups, salads, as well as excellent sides and desserts to round out your meal. They have recently started offering family-style take-out meals! This means you can turn The Lunch Box into The Dinner Box at your own table! With all of the remarkable offerings available, it’s no wonder that they are geared up to celebrate their 4th anniversary on the 20th of February.
A few of my favorite things.
If you’ve read my blogs about restaurants in the past, you know I’m a creature of habit so OF COURSE, I always get the same thing when I visit The Lunch Box. My go-to order is The Southwest Turkey Club (no onion), with a side of pasta salad. I have actually tried other things in the past and can confirm they have amazing soups as well. I’ve stopped in before when I wasn’t super hungry and grabbed a kid’s Bento box. It was the perfect, light meal option.
